Vegin’ Out makes ordering online vegan meals a painless process. I've said it before, but I'll say it again, transitioning to a vegan diet can be hard, especially when planning, preparing, and enjoying your meals.

Vegin’ Out is a vegan meal delivery service in LA, outside of LA and nationwide. They have a great variety of different options available that you can tailor to your specific tastes.

The meals are constantly different everyday so you won't get delivered the same meal twice and are well-balanced in terms of macros.

5. Fresh n’ Lean

Variety of meals

As the name implies, Fresh ‘n Lean’s meals tend to be quite fresh… and lean.

These healthy professionally-prepared meals are designed to provide you with convenient “heat and eat” nutrition, and their standard “plant-based” plan comes with a wide selection of vegan dishes for those eating a plant-based diet.

Sample meals

Fresh N Lean

Chocolate Walnut Brownie Loaf – this yummy vegan breakfast contains only 310 calories
Parsley Broccoli Brown Rice – healthy brown rice dish with veggies
Ranchero Black Bean Vegetables – a whopping 24g of protein packed into a small bowl
Teriyaki Lentils – a healthy Eastern-inspired dinner served with Brussels Sprouts

Pricing

The standard plant-based meal plan, which comes with 3 meals for 5 days out of the week (15 in total) comes in at $126.00 per week, which is on the cheaper side compared to some of these other food subscription services.

Packaging and delivery

The shipping is free and your food can be sent to anywhere in the US via UPS or the FedEx Air Service.

PROS

  • Delicious vegan meals
  • Cheaper than Sun Basket
  • Lots of variety in dishes
  • check
    Good customer service

CONS

  • Not too eco-friendly
  • ban
    Some users experienced order problems

The standard delivery day for meals is Fridays, and you will have to pay a fee if you want to change this and have your meals arrive on a different day.

Once the meals arrive, you should put them in the fridge as quickly as possible. You can freeze some of the meals, but Fresh ‘n Lean advise against it.

6. Green Chef

chef's table

Variety of Meals

Green Chef describe themselves as being “your Sous Chef”, which I suppose makes sense if you’re down with these various chefs and culinary terms.

Personally, I just enjoy getting a bunch of pre-portioned ingredients because I’m lazy and don’t like cooking.

There are menus for multiple different dietary restrictions, including an extensive menu for vegans. The menus change weekly, which is a great way to keep things fresh and interesting.

Sample Meals

  • Vegan Crab CakesTempeh Crab Cakes with basil-lemon aioli
  • Moroccan Cauliflower – featuring chickpeas, turmeric, and quinoa
  • Pesto Pasta Primavera – featuring seasonal spring vegetables
  • Jamaican Pineapple Fried Rice – with sweet potato and collard greens

The recipes from Green Chef involve fresh ingredients and are very easy to follow.

Pricing

Pricing varies wildly depending on your location, plan, and the types of meals that you want to be delivered, but suffice it to say that Green Chef’s healthy eating home delivery service is priced very competitively.

The average price of each vegan meal is $11.99 per serving.

Packaging and delivery

You can choose to have your food delivered every 1, 2, or 4 weeks depending on your preferences. You can also pause your orders at any time if you’re going to be away.

The boxes are temperature-controlled so that your food is at the appropriate temperature, and all meals are color-coded so that they’re easy to sort and identify at a glance.

PROS

  • check
    Revolving menu
  • check
    Plans for couples/families
  • check
Vegan, Omnivore, Keto, Paleo, Veggie, Gluten-Free and Pescatarian options
  • check
    High-end meal kits

CONS

  • A bit pricey
  • ban
    Meals are quite complex/exotic

7. Sakara

salad

Variety of Meals

Sakara is definitely the fashionable magazine-friendly version of a meal delivery service. Their website looks more like it should be selling face cream than salads.

In fact, they claim that their food can even reduce bloating and “improve skin clarity”, so maybe they are selling cosmetics after all.

Their plans include the “10 Day Reset” for new dieters, the “Best Body Challenge” meal plan and the “Detox" meal plan.

It seems like this service is heavily focused on losing weight and detoxing… it comes across a bit fad-ish to me.

Sample meals

  • Beauty Blend Salad with avocado, berries, and “superfood green dressing”
  • Sakara Glow Granola – served with pink “silk mylk”… whatever that is
  • Thai Burger – sweet potato burger with root vegetable “fries” and salad
  • Chia and Coconut Protein Waffles – served with maple syrup

All of Sakara’s meals are made from clean ingredients, featuring plant-based organic ingredients which are designed to be healthy and nutritious.

Pricing

A 5-day meal plan of breakfast, lunch, and dinner will cost you a whopping $349.00 for a weekly subscription.

This is obviously the kind of thing which is only available to people with tons of disposable income.

Packaging and delivery

Sakara meals are delivered to your door on a weekly basis, coming in a cooled bag or box depending on your location.

PROS

  • check
    Clean ingredients
  • check
    Organic non-GMO meals
  • check
    Tailored dieting plans
  • check
    Detox options

CONS

  • Heavily marketed toward women/beauty
  • ban
    Very expensive

8. Terra’s Kitchen

Variety of meals

Terra’s Kitchen features a selection of DIY recipes, smoothies, and ready-to-eat salads, giving you a bunch of options to peruse when deciding what to eat for the week.

The great thing about Terra’s Kitchen is that you can order individual meals if you like, allowing you to try their food before committing to a weekly meal plan.

Terra’s Kitchen has an admittedly limited Vegan range, but if you like a few of their plant-based options, it may be worth ordering them in every now and then.

Sample meals

woman eating salad
  • There’s Hummus Among Usred pepper hummus with carrots, pita, cucumbers, and more
  • Berry Medley – selection of fresh strawberries and blueberries
  • Green Protein Smoothie – kale, banana, apple, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and more

Pricing

If you’re looking to order some of the vegan dishes on their menu, you're looking at around $5 - $9 depending on what you like.

Packaging and delivery

Once placed, your food orders should arrive at your home between 2-3 working days depending on your location and the food purchased. All dishes will be packaged appropriately and at the correct temperatures, ensuring safe delivery.

PROS

  • Little (or no) preparation time required
  • check
Delivery person comes back to collect packaging
  • check
    Healthy choices
  • check
    Varied plans

CONS

  • Limited vegan options
  • ban
    Some users mention delivery problems

9. Hungryroot

Hungry Root vegan meal delivery service

Variety of meals

The thing about Hungryroot is they're not really a meal plan service, but rather more of a "personalized grocery service", giving you a bunch of fresh ingredients to play around with.

How it works is that you tell them a bit about yourself and then each week they deliver a batch of healthy groceries personalized to your needs.

They eliminate meal planning, shopping, and travel, so all you need to do is put them all together.

The amount of variety at Hungryroot is dizzying…

You want dairy-free nut-free vegetarian dinners? You got it.

You want an organic gluten-free soy-free vegan lunch? No problem.

They seem to be really on it with the dietary requirements on these subscriptions.

They do have recipes you can follow, but you’re encouraged to make your own choices.

Pricing

If you’re going for the solo package, which consists of 11 food items, then you will pay $69 per week.

If there’s two of you, you’ll pay $89 for 16 items, and if you’re a family, you’ll pay $99 per week for 21 food items.

Packaging and delivery

Hungryroot drivers deliver between 9am and 9pm, which is quite a large delivery window.

However, they use ice when transporting the food and leave it in insulated packaging for you to pick up, so they suggest unpacking it as quickly as possible.

Ground shipping is free, although air shipping comes with a charge of $10.

PROS

  • Encourages creativity with food
  • Create your own healthy meals
  • Adjust meals to your preferences
  • check
    Cancel at any time

CONS

  • Lack of protein in some meals
  • ban
    Vinegar predominantly featured in flavors

You can also watch this review by Youtuber Parejeda on her experience in trying out Hungryroot for one week.

10. Epicured

chef preparing food

Variety of meals

Epicured has a specialty for healthy foods which are gluten-free and low in FODMAPs, which stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols. (2)

I can see why they went for the acronym.

The company delivers throughout the North-eastern United States, so they’re not available nationwide, yet their meals require no cooking.

Yes, these home chef-prepared meals are approved by leading (or so they claim) doctors and dieticians.

Sample meals

Tofu Tikka Masala – creamy, sweet, and spicy, just as it should be
Warm Autumn Salad – autumnal medley of kabocha, carrots, broccoli, and more
Dragon Fruit Smoothie – dragon fruit with strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries

Pricing

The pricing varies because you can customize your meal plan for each week.

Although this is great for allowing you to change things up according to your tastes, it does reduce the convenience element of these food delivery services.

Epicured claim that their average meal costs around $15.

Packaging and delivery

For people who live in the New York Metro area, there are deliveries available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

If you live outside of the Metro area, then Wednesday is the only available delivery day.

PROS

  • Ready-to-eat chef-prepared meals
  • Numerous vegan options
  • Brilliant flavors
  • check
    Customizable meals

CONS

  • Limited to the North-east
  • ban
Only cheap if you eat out a lot

11. Urban Remedy

vegan food

Variety of meals

Urban Remedy are very keen on letting you know that celebrities like Kate Upton and Cindy Crawford likes them.

There are many vegan options available from Urban Remedy, although they don’t advertise them as such, which makes them hard to pick out among the bunch.

Sample meals

Sweet Potato Hummus and Veggies – the greatest of vegan snacks
Green Tea Leaf Salad – comes with tasty salad dressing and nut mixture
Herbal Slimming Tea – caffeine-free tea which reduces your hunger and bloating

Pricing

Most of the meal plans are 3 days long, which is not ideal if you’re looking for a long-term food delivery solution.

The prices for these 3-day cleanses vary from $165 to $220 depending on which plan you go for. It’s definitely not the cheapest solution.

Packaging and delivery

If you’re in the US but outside of California, then you must place an order worth a minimum of $95 to be eligible for delivery.

Overnight guaranteed delivery can be made to anywhere in the United States from Tuesday through to Saturday.

PROS

  • Good for detoxes
  • Cleanses your body (supposedly)
  • Many plant-based foods
  • check
    Free delivery

CONS

  • Overpriced
  • ban
    More of a temporary solution

My #1 Recommended Vegan Meal Delivery Service

Looking for a cheap and high-quality vegan meal delivery service?

Out of these top brands, I would personally recommend Veestro as the better vegan meal delivery service.

Veestro have a bunch of different cuisines and fusion cooking styles to choose from, helping to keep things interesting in the kitchen.

The food quality was top-notch and ordering online was fairly simple and there wasn't any hidden costs (like what other companies do).

Overall, this is an ideal choice for vegans and vegetarians - even for non-vegans looking for ways to spice up their weight loss program.
