Greens First Powder Review: Everything You Need To Know

Greens powders have become incredibly popular over the past few years, which is not surprising when you read about the claimed benefits of using them.

There are various products available, one being Greens First, but would we recommend it?

Our review will look at this greens supplement in more detail. We will look at what it contains, whether there is any benefit to using it, plus any potential dangers.

We will then reveal whether we would recommend it to you or not.

What Is Greens First?

Greens First is manufactured by Ceautamed Worldwide. This product is marketed as an all-in-one and easy to use antioxidant supplement that promotes good health.

It contains a long list of ingredients that include both dark greens and a range of brightly colored fruits to provide you with all the vitamins and minerals you need.

This super greens supplement is both a phytonutrient and antioxidant.

During the manufacturing process, the fruits and vegetables are juiced and then spray dried at low temperatures. The reason for this is to make sure the nutrients are not lost from the foods.

The Greens First product is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans. It is non-GMO and contains no artificial flavorings or preservatives.

You might have noticed that there is no gluten-free label to be seen on the packaging. This is because it does contain a negligible amount of gluten, it is pretty much undetectable and conforms to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirement of less than 20ppm gluten.

This makes it still suitable for those who suffer from celiac disease or an intolerance to gluten. Greens First is also available in capsule form (Greens First PRO), but for the purpose of this review, we’ll focus on the superfood powder.

Every 9.4 grams serving provides you with more than 15 servings of fruits and vegetables, as well as 49 different superfoods. These ingredients were picked to help achieve a healthy pH balance between the acidic and alkaline elements of food.

Ingredients Of Greens First

Green Ingredients

The 49 different ingredients of Greens First have been organized into 6 main categories. Unfortunately, despite there being a label and the ingredients being listed, this is a proprietary blend.

This means that we do not know the exact dosage of each ingredient.

The problem with proprietary blends is that you cannot determine what benefits are on offer before purchasing the supplement and trying it yourself.

Let’s look at the ingredients, shall we?

Greens – 2500 mg per serving

The greens blend found in this product includes barley grass, chlorella, and spirulina (see also ‘ What is Blue Spirulina?’ ).

Both chlorella and spirulina (see also ‘NOW Foods Spirulina Powder Review‘) are blue-green algae known for their health benefits, including:

  • An improved immune system [1]
  • Improved cholesterol [2]
  • Normal blood pressure [3]
  • Lower blood sugar levels [4]

Chlorella is an excellent source of carotenoids, while spirulina is a good source of chlorophyll, iron, and zinc. The addition of barley grass is to limit the amount of gluten found in this formula.

Vegetables – 1500 mg per serving

The greens mixture includes tons of healthy vegetables in one single superfood — carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, parsley, and kale.

These whole food ingredients contain important nutrients that will definitely increase the number of vitamins and minerals you consume. Therefore helping to improve your overall health.

Carrots are a good source of vitamin A. They are also a good source of the antioxidant known as beta carotene. Research has found that this antioxidant has been linked with cancer prevention [5].

vegetables

Spinach is also nutrient-rich, being an excellent source of both vitamin A and K, it also contains antioxidants that have been shown to help reduce the risk of chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease [6].

Fibers – 1950 mg per serving

Ingredients such as oat beta-glucan, apple fiber pectin, and brown rice bran are all good sources of fiber.

Fiber helps to keep you feel full. And the satiety experienced is of benefit to those looking to lose weight.

When you are satiated you are less likely to reach for that unhealthy snack.

OxiSure Blend – 300 mg per serving

This concoction includes carrots, green tea extract, blueberry, plum, grape seed, cranberry, raspberry, pine bark, tomatoes, spinach, kale, and brussels sprouts, can be found in this juice powder.

This juice powder blend has its name trademarked, which may sound impressive, but is likely just a marketing ploy.

While the list of ingredients used contains various superfoods that contain various nutrients and antioxidants, I am not sure there is anything too special here that warrants trademarking the blend.

Green Tea Extract

ReversalMax Blend – 100 mg per serving

This particular mixture contains ingredients such as polygonum cuspidatum, acerola cherry, and concord grape.

These ingredients may not be familiar to many of you reading this, however, that is not a bad thing. When looking at the benefits of each ingredient, you will realize that they are all superfoods that are full of beneficial antioxidants.

Polygonum cuspidatum, for example, is full of resveratrol. Research has shown that it is full of antioxidants, offering numerous health benefits including lower blood pressure (see also ‘How Does Pre-Workout Affect High Blood Pressure?‘) [7].

Enzymes – 200 mg per serving

The enzymes found in this product include bromelain, papain, protease, amylase, lipase, cellulase, and lactase.

These enzymes offer various health benefits. For example, papain has been shown to help reduce pain and inflammation (see also ‘Exercises to Relieve Pain From Plantar Fasciitis‘) [8] and may aid digestion too [9].

Probiotics – 200 mg per serving

The probiotics (see also ‘NOW Foods Probiotic-10 Review‘) found in this product include lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium longum, lactobacillus casei, and lactobacillus rhamnosus.

As your gut is made up of over 1,000 different microorganisms it is important to provide it with a range of enzymes and probiotics (see also ‘Up4 Probiotics Review‘).

They can help promote the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut, which offers numerous health benefits including an improvement in digestive issues such as diarrhea, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) [10].

Other ingredients that may be of interest to you that are found in the formula are milk thistle and turmeric rhizome extract.

probiotic

Milk thistle is often used when treating problems with the liver and gallbladder [11]. It has also been shown to prevent cancer [12] and promote breast milk production [13].

Turmeric, on the other hand, is a good source of manganese, iron, potassium, and vitamin C. It has anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to improve liver function [14] and may aid digestion [15].

How Does Greens First Taste?

Greens First does not taste awful but like so many other green powder drinks, it is not great either.

The original variant has a fruity flavor with a hint of spearmint (there are also varieties that taste of berry, and chocolate). To sweeten the blend, the manufacturer has added stevia to the blend. This is a sugar substitute that comes from plants, so don’t worry that you are going to be consuming artificial sweeteners.

Despite the addition of stevia, there is no getting away from the grassy and earthy taste of this greens drink. Some customer reviews commend the flavor, though (see below).

The strong flavor of this powder could be due to the way that it has been manufactured.

During the manufacturing process, the vegetables it contains were juiced to form the powder so that the nutrients were preserved. This process produces a stronger grassier taste than powders that were left to dry naturally and then ground.

Online Greens First reviews are pretty impressive, with some positive statements about the drink.

I love this, I’ve been taking it for about 3 months now. I have it first thing in the morning and enjoy the fresh taste – it encourages me to keep on with more healthy eating. It’s very easy to mix up – I just put a teaspoonful in a jam jar with water, pop on the lid, then pour it into a glass.

Would We Recommend Greens First?

It is important that you can increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Brands like Greens First will certainly help increase the amount you consume.

Our Greens First review has revealed that although it is likely to offer various health benefits, we cannot recommend it due to a lack of nutritional information on its label.

This super greens product contains some impressive plant-based content. It has food extracts and concentrates Including milk thistle, green tea extract, organic fruits, vegetables, different superfoods extracts, digestive enzymes, and probiotics.

A diet rich in these contents provides numerous benefits, however, as a proprietary blend is used we cannot say for certain that any real benefit can be seen. Also, when looking at the serving size, we have major doubts that any benefit will be experienced.

Our chosen alternative would be Organifi, which is a green juice (see also ‘ Athletic Greens vs Organifi ‘) that promises to help you detox and boost your immunity. It’s what I personally use and recommend to my clients.
