Good news, you don’t have to give up cookies as a vegan.

But before you just pick up the first cookie that has a vegan label on the packaging, consider that a lot of them either lack a delicious taste or are so full of sugar and cholesterol that they should come with a health warning.

In a completely selfless act, our team here got together and and dozens of different vegan products ranging from peanut butter to double chocolate chips to our grocery lists.

And we’re happy to share the vegan cookie brands we enjoyed the most.

Because all of us here are into fitness, we were happy to see the positive reviews about the taste of this peanut butter cookie. Not only is it reasonably low in sugar, but it comes with a good amount of plant protein as well.

What attracted us to this cookie was the organic ingredients and the fact that they don’t taste too sweet.

However, they are still tasty enough so that you may be able to keep your kids happy with something that is vegan and not completely unhealthy.

The only downside is that some people commented that it’s not quite as enjoyable as an Oreo cookie. 


3 - Nana’s

With a name like that, the company has to make sure that it doesn’t underdeliver. Fortunately, there are plenty of positive comments about the double chocolate flavors.

With added walnuts and some vegan chocolate chips, they may just satisfy your cravings for treats.

By combining chocolate chips with walnuts and oatmeal, this may also be a suitable option if you’re looking for gluten-free brands.

We certainly did enjoy the crunchy flavors, but these are among the more expensive vegan cookies available. 


5 - Biscoff

If you’ve ever traveled around Europe, then the chances are that you may have enjoyed these simple vegan cookies in a few coffee shops.

They come in a small size, so you may limit your calories quite easily. And they have quite a unique caramelized taste to them.

Peanut butter seems to be one of the more common flavors people enjoy. These ones are created in a kind of sandwich style with a soft cream-like center.

Yes, they are a bit sweeter than other vegan products we tried, but that may just help with those cravings a bit.

CONS

  • Bundled as 4 cookies per pack

Just keep in mind that there are 4 cookies in each pack, so if you’re not going to eat them all, which you shouldn’t ;-), then make sure you have suitable storage to keep them fresh. 


7 - Trader Joe’s

These Belgian style cookies come from a well known American company, and based on reviews alone, it seems like they got the recipe right.

The crunchy texture and taste are very similar to the Bisoff's.

Almond butter is actually a healthier choice than peanut butter, as it reportedly contains less saturated fat[1] .

These Chunkie Dunkies are also reasonably low in refined carbs and gluten-free as well.

9 - Enjoy Life

This is another one of the soft baked products we enjoyed as they seem to have just the right amount of chocolate chips in them.

It’s also a gluten-free and non-GMO certified option, which may give some added peace of mind.

With all organic ingredients, it’s also something that will give you a bit less of a guilty conscience.

Can Vegans Eat Cookies?

Yes, vegans can eat cookies as long as they check the label carefully for any type of animal products.

You have to make sure that there is no trace of egg or dairy, which are usually used, and if it’s a chocolate chip variety, then make sure it’s dairy-free chocolate.

Otherwise, there’s absolutely no reason us vegans shouldn’t be able to enjoy some occasional delicious treats.

Whether you fancy a double chocolate chip or simple soft baked peanut butter cookie, there are certain ingredients that you need to always check for on labels [2].

Here are some common things that are added for texture, and to create sweet flavors:

And if there is anything on the label that just seems to belong in a science lab, then it’s most likely some sort of artificial additives. Stay away from these and ideally pick something certified vegan and organic.

So, Which Ones Are You Going To Try First? 

I would say that you should just go ahead and try them all, but that wouldn’t be a very healthy recommendation. So, we had a vote here at the office, and for us, one of the best vegan cookie brand is Lenny & Larry’s.
