The first thing a Keto diet accomplishes is reducing carb intake. Overweight men typically have lower testosterone, so losing weight will undoubtedly improve hormone levels.

But, for most others, a Keto dietary plan may be a solid stride toward a healthier overall lifestyle. But, restricting your carbs too much and introducing too much fat and protein can actually have the opposite effect and kill your testosterone.

Do you need carbs to produce testosterone?

The answer may surprise you. A high carbohydrate diet will actually increase your testosterone because it protects testosterone production.

If you cut your cards by too much, you may end up increasing your stress levels and lowering your testosterone. The same goes for when you eat too much protein. 

Which means that Keto is likely not going to be the answer for someone diagnosed with Low T.

Changing your diet may not cure ED overnight, but the Keto diet provides some men with a solution to resetting their system over a short span of time.

  1. Reduced appetite. The Keto diet is popular because it doesn't restrict how much you can eat, just what you eat. And a low-carb diet automatically reduces hunger.
  2. Decreases insulin complications. A ketogenic diet plan can reduce blood sugar because it reduces your carb intake.
  3. Improves heart health. According to research, some people experience a drop in bad cholesterol and an increase in the 'good' sort. 

What are the cons of a keto diet?

  1. Any diet is hard to maintain. The Keto diet may be easier to stick to than other diets. But, it is still an on/off switch regarding what you can and can't eat. You are either all in or it doesn't do its job.
  2. "Keto flu." Some people experience short-term fogginess, headaches, and extreme fatigue because of the decrease in vitamins and minerals. Constipation may also be a symptom because of the lack of fiber in a ketogenic diet.
  3. Health risks. Introducing a high-fat and low-carb diet can exasperate kidney disease and can lead to kidney stones. The Keto diet can cause dehydration, too.

Keto and Testosterone

Just like with everything, you can overdo the Keto diet, especially if you're changing your eating habits to increase your libido.

The lack of research makes it difficult to know just how much Keto affects testosterone levels. And, Scientists have actually found that high carbohydrate diets increase testosterone levels, not decrease it.  You should always consult your physician when you change your diet and exercise. It is for your safety, and so you can get the results you're looking for.

  • Processed foods - Contain trans fats, which can lead to type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
  • Alcohol - Excessive alcohol will eat your testosterone levels.
