Free Soul Vegan Protein Blend Review:
Is This Good For Women?

When new clients ask me what the most important supplement for them should be, I always say a high-quality post workout protein. The most common thing you’ll find in sports nutrition stores and at the gym is whey protein. However, as a vegan, this dairy-based protein is out of the question.

My female clients ask me about the brand Free Soul — their vegan collection is quite interesting.

In this review, let’s see if this product is worth a try for us vegans.

What Is Free Soul Vegan Protein?

Free Soul Vegan Protein Product With Powder

As you can probably guess by the name, this is a vegan protein that has been specifically formulated for women.See, the problem you’ll encounter with many supplements (see also ‘Host Defense Lion’s Mane Review‘) is that the standard serving size is actually too much for female needs. As a result, you’ll end up trying to measure out partial scoops, which is never an exact science. As you’ll find out in the next section, this vegan nutrition supplement contains a few bonus nutrients that are helpful from a fitness and overall health perspective. As far as the protein goes, it has been sourced from peas and hemp seeds, which makes it highly bioavailable as well as easy to digest. And with 20 g per serving, it’s plenty for the average female athlete.

Here’s a small tip from my dietician. Rather than mix this vegan protein powder with water, blend it with some almond milk for a smoother and tastier experience (especially with the berry flavor).

Or, if you have some favorite smoothie recipes, then simply add a scoop to those. You can also see our smoothie recipes here.

Ingredients of Free Soul Vegan Protein Blend

OK, it goes without saying that none of the nutrition or ingredients are derived from animal products, and it is a certified vegan product. Alongside the pea and hemp protein isolates that provide the full amino acid range, you’ll find some Peruvian Maca added, which some studies have shown can help balance hormone levels and provide a boost of energy (1).There are also a few vitamins and minerals, including B6 and B12, as well as iron, calcium, and magnesium in a moderate dosage to not cause stomach upset. Finally, what I liked to see on the label was the L-carnitine (see also ‘L-Carnitine: The Benefits And Side Effects‘), which plays a role in the way your muscles generate and process energy. This can help a lot with post-training fatigue (2).

Different Nutrition Capsule

Overall, ARA Fitness has put a lot of thought into the right balance of ingredients and in the right concentration for women.

In general, animal proteins are more easily digested than plant proteins, but research shows that 91–98% of the protein in ground hemp seed is digestible.

When Should You Take Free Soul Plant-Based Protein Blend?

Free Soul Vegan Protein Product With Powder

When it comes to most supplements (see also our review of Thesis Nootropic), timing is essential. Some have to be taken with food, while others need a while to work. So, what’s the recommendation for protein supps?Whether it’s vegan or dairy, you want to take a protein powder within about 30 to 45 minutes after training (see also ‘How To Train For A Marathon As A Vegan‘) . This is where your muscles will start to relax, and blood flow returns to normal.

Some aches and pains will set it, triggering the process of muscle repair and building. The sooner after your workout you can take it, the better, as it will take about 20 minutes before your digestive system starts to absorb the protein.

Does Free Soul Vegan Protein Blend Have Side Effects?

With all the research I’ve done, I saw a couple of comments where people had some stomach upset, which was due to quite a large dose where the diet was also heavily focused on protein.

It’s worth noting that this particular Free Soul option is also gluten and soy-free, which covers two of the most common food allergies.

The cleanest plant based protein powder is most commonly believed to be hemp protein. It is the only vegan option that delivers a full range of all essential amino acids, which no other plant food can achieve.

Should You Buy Free Soul Vegan Protein?

Transparent Labs ORGANIC VEGAN

Free Soul Vegan Protein may be a good choice for a protein powder. It does have the full amino acid profile and has a few vitamins and minerals that may help you with your protein needs.

However, I feel that the female-focused marketing is quite gimmicky.

And while it does have a decent amount of protein per serving, I’d still like my vegan protein powder to be packed with more protein for better muscle recovery after A workout.

One of my personal favorites, and the one I recommend to all my clients, is the Organic Vegan Protein from Transparent Labs.

It has more protein content and the taste better is a lot better. Additionally, it’s reported that side effects are far fewer. You can read the full review on Transparent Labs here.
